Mints Mods Unplugged - Angela Schmeideke

Welcome to the inaugural post in our new “Mints Mods Unplugged” series, giving us off-the-cuff insight into the incredible volunteer moderators who help to keep our Moms in Tech community the vibrant, supportive place that it is today.

This series will allow you to get to know our mods a bit better, learn what attracted them to the Mints community, hear from them about their favorite subgroups, parenting tips, and more. We truly couldn’t do this without them, and hope those of you who are members will take the time to send them a quick “thank you” when you see them in our community.

Our first featured moderator, Angela Schmeideke, is an IT manager working in healthcare. Previously a nurse by trade, read more about her switch to tech, her most valuable interactions in the Mints subgroups, and how she loves to spend time with her 9-year-old daughter. Stay tuned for new featured mods in the months ahead!

  • How long have you been a mod/volunteer with Mints?

I have been a mod/volunteer with Mints since November 2021. I help mod the main group, Austin Mints, Elementary School Mints, and Mints Unemployment Support.

  • What initially attracted you to the community?

The incredible amount of knowledge and kindness in the group. I learn something new every day in Mints.

  • Which subgroups are we most likely to find you in on any given day?
Mints Makeup and Skincare, Mints Bookworms, and Mints Travel

  • What do you do in your professional life?

I work in healthcare technology as an IT manager. I am a nurse by trade, but have been in tech for 10 years now. I am responsible for a domain of applications and lines of business, and handle all technical vendor relationships and stakeholder management for my domain.

  • What has been the most useful or valuable learning that you’ve had through your membership in Mints?

I have learned so many great money tips in Mints Personal Finance. I have learned about credit cards, HYSAs, and investing advice.

  • What advice do you have for a new mom in tech? What helped you most when you were a new mom?

The role in your relationship with your baby is irreplaceable, your workplace would likely replace you in a heartbeat. Prioritize accordingly.

  • What is your favorite thing to do with your kids?

I have a 9 year old daughter and she has really gotten into musicals so we’ve watched The Eras Tour Movie, Wicked, and Hamilton more times than I can count. I love watching those with her.

  • What’s your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

I’ve really gotten into reading lately but I also love to bake.

  • What are some areas in which you’re hoping to grow your career or professional development? And, how can other Mints help?

I am looking to get back into a director-level role. It is important to me to stay in a healthcare company. I have many years of clinical experience that make me a valuable asset in IT as I can see “both sides.”
