What we stand for

Moms in Tech: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Principles

WHAT WE STAND FOR:

  • Black Lives Matter
  • Trans women are women. Trans men are men.
  • No human being is illegal
  • Diversity in tech is fundamental to its success
  • Women’s rights are human rights
  • Science is real
  • Gender is not binary
  • Love is love

We do not allow any hateful sentiment or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, appearance, health condition, or disability.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF MEMBERS:

We value discussion and strive to create and maintain a safe space where our members can share experiences and ask questions with a sincere goal of listening and learning. We will hold space for hard and uncomfortable conversations on topics on race and privilege in an authentic and civil manner. At the same time, we will not tolerate hateful messages of any form.

OUR GROUP DOES NOT ALLOW THE FOLLOWING SENTIMENTS:

  • anti-vaccine
  • sexism or misogyny
  • racism (this includes passive racism, microaggressions, and anything Anti-Black Lives Matter)
  • homophobia
  • transphobia (including TERFs)
  • antisemitism, Islamophobia, or other religious discrimination.

Please report any violating content with the admin reporting tool.

No promotion

Do you understand and agree to the following?

  • The group is not a platform for self-promotion or commercial solicitation.
  • You cannot post promotional content or links in the group (this includes links to content by or about you or your company, affiliate links, events connected to you in any way — free or otherwise — or anything else meant to further your work, brand, or business).
  • You must not DM or otherwise contact any member outside of the group without first getting specific permission from them to do so.
  • Failure to abide by these rules may result in permanent removal from the group without warning.
Group rules + posting guidelines

Please read all of the following before agreeing. These guidelines apply across the Mints+ portal AND the Moms in Tech Facebook community. Scroll to the bottom to enable the agreement checkbox.

You can also open the full Community Guidelines in a new tab.

Moms in Tech is a community of more than 19,000 women in tech navigating motherhood. These guidelines describe what we expect from one another to keep that community safe, supportive, and useful.

These guidelines apply to the Mints+ portal (members feed, Project Patch, comments, the directory, events) AND the Moms in Tech Facebook community. Conduct in our Facebook group is also governed by Facebook's policies.

Group rules

These ten rules apply across the Mints+ portal and the Facebook community.

  1. No hate or microaggressions. We have zero tolerance for passive or active racism, homophobia, or transphobia. See our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles above. We do not allow snark towards other members or microaggressions of any kind.
  2. Show empathy. We have zero tolerance for shaming, judging, and hostile behavior or attitudes. This includes towards people not represented in the community such as men, non-tech folks. Where you can, show empathy for others. Where you can't, scroll past.
  3. Respect everyone's privacy. Everything that's shared in the community should stay in the community. No sharing of what you've seen, read, or heard is allowed. This is especially true — though not limited — to screenshots. Members will be removed on first violation of this rule.
  4. Keep conversations productive. Share the "why" and "how" behind what you write. Be actionable and add values to move the conversation forward. We encourage discussions and ideas, but do not challenge someone's lived experiences or their own feelings.
  5. No public shaming or exposure. Do not call out individuals or businesses for shaming or exposure. No doxxing or mob justice, such as calling out anyone with accusations of wrongful action or encouraging the community to track down someone's contact info to flood them with feedback.
  6. No spam. Respect the topic of posts and subgroups. Discussions should be directly related to the question and intent of the post. Unrelated, off-topic, or repetitive comments are considered spam and will be removed.
  7. No medical advice or anti-vaccination sentiment. Do not look to the community for medical advice including diagnosis, treatment, or whether a particular situation is concerning. Mods may decline any post that is likely to receive medical advice, even if it's not the OP's intention. Also, any anti-vaccination comments or posts will be deleted.
  8. No promotions. No promotions, including events, writing, businesses, products, groups, & includes non-profits, fundraisers, crowdfunding, petitions, & political endorsements. Recommendations require disclosure of affiliations & details why you are recommending.
  9. All posts need to follow the posting guidelines. In addition to the rules above, all posts must follow the additional Posting Guidelines below.
  10. Do not message the mods. If you've read all the rules and guidelines and are not able to find the information you want, feel free to go to the Moms in Tech page (not group) and send a message to the mod team that way. Do not message individual mods — your messages are unlikely to be seen and will not be answered. Repeated violations of this rule may result in removal from the community.

Posting guidelines

These guidelines exist because Facebook's rules functionality has limited space, and they apply equally on the Mints+ portal.

Our mission is to support moms in tech through all stages of motherhood. We are, first and foremost, a support group. Our volunteer mod team will prioritize posts based on a combination of factors including usefulness to the community, clarity of the post, and how closely the post adheres to our rules and the guidelines below.

Please don't be offended if your post isn't published — sometimes we decline posts based on volume, repetitiveness of the topic, or other factors. If you want more info on why your post was declined, please be sure to read the official rules above as well as the guidelines below. If you want to speak to the mod team about our decisions, contact us at the Moms in Tech page inbox. Do not message us individually, it's against community rules.

  1. No posts that violate our community rules.
  2. We don't allow local childcare posts (e.g. seeking/recommending a nanny, school, daycare, babysitter, etc.) in our main community. If a subgroup exists for the relevant area, please post there. Please find local groups that are more suitable for this.
  3. For all other local questions, we will only allow them in the main community if no relevant subgroup exists.
  4. No market research including surveys or gathering content for blogs, articles, speeches, etc. Please invest in your own research channels.
  5. Do not PM, email, or otherwise contact any member outside of the community unless they have explicitly given you permission to do so. Violating this may result in removal from the community without warning.
  6. No classified posts such as items for sale, for rent, or trades. It is okay to give away free items that are not related to a business that you or someone you know runs.
  7. No tech support or customer support directed at employees of specific companies. You can ask questions and start discussion generally with the whole community. Do not call out employees of any company to assist with your issue. Our members are off the clock here. Please use the company's regular support or feedback channels. Also, we may decline posts asking for tech help that have been requested frequently in the past and/or which can really only be resolved by an employee of the company in question.
  8. No posts asking about how to get back hacked or closed Facebook, Instagram, or other accounts — no matter who they're directed to. There have been plenty of those kinds of posts over the years and the answer is always the same. There's nothing anyone here can do for you unless they work at those companies, and per the last guideline, those employees are off the clock here.
  9. No news from unofficial or unverified sources. If we aren't sure that a source is legit or reputable, we may decline the post to be safe.
  10. Polls are not allowed in the community unless posted by a member of the mod team.
  11. We do not support anonymous posting in the main community. If your topic is appropriate for Mints Jobs Networking or Single Moms in Tech, you can post anonymously in those subgroups.
  12. No job opening postings or networking posts to find jobs in our main community. Please use our Mints Jobs Networking subgroup for this.
  13. Posts that include sentiment of "not sure if this breaks the rules…", "admin delete if not allowed" etc., will automatically be declined. Please do the homework and become familiar with our rules and guidelines. If you still have questions, message our page before submitting a post.
  14. We encourage posts that invite productive discussion. Explain your intent and context behind your post. For example, posts that are only links or reshared with little or no context may be declined. Rants/vents posts without inviting discussion will likely not be published.
  15. Only posts seeking information or support for Mints or their immediate family are allowed. Our community has grown too large to accommodate posts for other people (e.g. "for a friend") and those will be declined.

As a reminder, if you have questions about these guidelines or anything else, do not message individual mods. Instead, message the mod team via the Moms in Tech page.

Lastly as a reminder, one of our most important community rules is to respect privacy. Members should never re-share anything they see in the community. However, this is still the internet. Please keep that in mind when posting. Consider not including certain details or asking people to connect via private message.

No promotion / no commercial solicitation

The community is not a platform for self-promotion or commercial solicitation. You cannot post promotional content or links — this includes content by or about you or your company, affiliate links, events connected to you in any way (free or otherwise), or anything else meant to further your work, brand, or business.

You must not DM or otherwise contact any member outside of the community without first getting specific permission from them to do so. Failure to abide by these rules may result in permanent removal without warning.

We do have opportunities for sponsorship and partnerships outside of the Facebook group. If you have a product or service that aligns with our mission and may be interesting to our members, please reach out to us via the Moms in Tech page on Facebook. We'll respond if it seems like a possible fit.
